Here is a heads-up on what’s new at Rocky Creek! Based on current studies, we are now encouraging three year vaccines for both felines and canines. The trusted vaccine manufacturers that we use have proven three-year efficacy for certain vaccines previously labeled as yearly boosters. Research has shown that it is beneficial to the health of our furry friends to stimulate the immune system less frequently. This means less stress (and pokes!) for your pets on a yearly basis!
Our veterinary staff recognizes that each pet is unique and has different medical needs, which will always be taken into consideration before any vaccines are administered. We offer a variety of vaccinations that can be custom tailored to your pet’s needs. This article will only address the “core” vaccines (those which are required by either law or recommended for all dogs and cats regardless of lifestyle). Here are our new core-vaccine protocols for our patients at Rocky Creek:
***Yearly Leptospirosis and six-month Bordetella vaccines will be given on a traditional schedule as puppies and when due if appropriate for lifestyle as determined by the veterinarian.
***Feline Leukemia (FELV) vaccines will be given on a traditional schedule as kittens and as a three-year vaccine (when due) if appropriate for lifestyle as determined by the veterinarian.
It is important to remember that vaccines are only one part of your pet’s health. The annual exams, fecals, and lab work are what allows us to have a complete grasp on each pet’s health and internal organ function. Please email or call our office with any questions regarding the specific needs of your pet.
